General Candle Care & Wick Trimming FAQs

General Candle Care & Wick Trimming

  • Trim your wick to ¼" before each burn. This simple step significantly extends your candle’s life and ensures a cleaner burn. A longer wick burns too hot, causing faster burn times and excess soot. Use a wick trimmer (link) or even nail clippers to get that perfect trim!

  • Burn for 3-4 hours at a time. On the first burn, be sure to let the wax melt all the way to the edges of the container. This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn for the rest of your candle’s life.

  • There may be "hang up" along the sides of the vessel.  This is normal until the candle has burned about halfway down.

  • Safety first! Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it away from drafts, pets, and small children.

  • If your flame is too high or the container feels hot, extinguish the flame, let the candle cool, trim the wick, and relight it for a more controlled burn.  DO NOT HANDLE CANDLES THAT FEEL TOO HOT TO TOUCH!

What Are Scent Notes?

Candles are crafted with layers of fragrance, which unfold as the candle burns:

  • Top notes are the first scents you experience when lighting the candle or when you smell it unlit.

  • Middle notes (also called heart notes) emerge as the top notes fade and form the core of the fragrance.

  • Base notes develop when the candle reaches a full melt pool and typically reveal themselves after about an hour of burning. The true essence of your candle is a blend of the middle and base notes.

How Long Will My Candle Last?

  • 10-12 oz candles: ~70-80+ hours of burn time, perfect for larger, open spaces.

  • 8-9 oz candles: ~50+ hours, ideal for medium-sized areas in your home.

  • 5-7 oz candles: ~25-40+ hours, great for smaller spaces like bathrooms or bedside tables.

Can I Reuse My Candle Container? How?

Yes, absolutely! Upcycling your candle container is easy and sustainable! Here’s how:

  • Freezer Method: Freeze the container for a few hours, then pop out the leftover wax.

  • Oven Method: Place the container in the oven on the lowest setting until the wax melts. Be cautious as the container will be hot!

  • Wick Removal: Gently rock the wick holder back and forth until it loosens.

  • Clean It Up: Use your favorite cleaning product to give your container a fresh start.

  • Reuse Ideas: Transform your empty candle container into a chic desk accessory, a holder for makeup brushes, or a stylish container for cotton swabs!
